Faith Journey
Since becoming an elder, the spiritual attacks have seemed to increase which is understandable; after all, you are going about the Lord’s business with more attention and purpose.
As I pulled up a chair with God this morning, on a much needed day off, I was drawn to a passage in 2 Samuel 7 where God promises to be with David’s household for the ages. David realized that while he sat and slept in his house made of cedars, the ark was without a home and he wanted to give it a home.
The Lord responded to David saying, “Are you the one to build me a house to dwell in? I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought the Israelites up out of Egypt to this day.” (2 Sam 7:5-6) The Lord dwells everywhere. He doesn’t need a specific place. He has moved from place to place with the Israelites using a tent for a dwelling place. He never commanded the rulers to build him a house. (2 Sam 7:7)
The Lord further responds to David – I took you from the shepherd fields to lead His people Israel, being with him every step of the way. (2 Sam 7:8) I started reflecting upon my own journey. I can point back to specific points in my life where God picked me up and set my feet upon a new place. Whether it was singing with the Continental Singers or getting into a new college in less than 10 days, to moving to a new department at work before a layoff came — these are moments when the Lord has moved me in His perfect timing.
This morning, my heart rested heavy upon these words from the Lord in 2 Samuel 7 – especially as I remember a family from work who lost their young son in a sky diving accident. Rest in these words from the Lord in 2 Samuel 7 today.
