Facilities, Twitter & Earthquakes

Today, we experienced a moderate quake in the SoCal region – we were due for one, so its always interesting when they show up.  However, having been on Twitter for some time it was interesting to see the information following among all of the tweetpeeps, especially Cynthia

This information brokering made me think how, as a facilities professional, we could use twitter as a way to check on our facilities.  I was off-site having lunch with two others, but we had a crew that was back at the plant.  Voice cell was down, texting up, & Twitter was up.  Anne Jackson talked about Twittering people during the tornado’s that rolled thru OK City not too long ago; therefore, it makes since that Twitter could be used for facilities management during a quake or some other disaster when phone lines would be down.

Twitter has many uses, who would have thought that a quake would bring out the facilities management side.  Interesting uses!
